The Orthopaedics and Traumatology Department of National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) provides its services at Bir Hospital and National Trauma Centre. The department came into existence at Bir Hospital in the 1980s when Orthopaedic Department was given a separate status to cater to the increasing number of patients with Orthopaedic ailments. Functioning of National Trauma Centre jump-started with the earthquake disaster of 2072. It served as a major centre providing emergency Orthopaedic services during the megaquake. Currently the department runs outpatient and inpatient services at both NTC and Bir Hospital. Surgical services are held at NTC. Along with Trauma and general Orthopaedic services, we now provide super-specialized services through three different units. Total of 37 Orthopaedic surgeons work in National Trauma Centre, 26 are posted in NTC while 11 are posted in Bir Hospital.
