Welcome to the National Trauma Centre, Nepal's pioneering institution in trauma care, established with support from the Government of India.
The inception of this visionary project traces back to 1997, marked by a historic collaboration between the then Prime Ministers of Nepal and India. Nearly two decades later, on 7 December 2014, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Centre, signifying a shared commitment to healthcare excellence in the region. Despite initial setbacks, exacerbated by the challenges posed by the devastating earthquake of 2072 B.S., the National Trauma Centre, operating under the Ministry of Health, has evolved into a cornerstone of Nepal's healthcare infrastructure. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Centre stands as a beacon of hope, delivering specialized trauma services to patients from across Nepal.
Located adjacent to Bir Hospital, the National Trauma Centre operates as a public specialty hospital under the preview of the Ministry of Health. Spanning approximately 11 ropanis of land, its nine-story modern facility accommodates more than 250 beds and serves over 350 patients daily. Equipped with cutting-edge technology and manned by skilled professionals, the Centre addresses a wide spectrum of trauma cases, encompassing orthopedic, neurological, spinal, burn, and plastic-related injuries. Furthermore, it serves as a teaching hospital affiliated with the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), accepting internship students akin to Bir Hospital.
The National Trauma Centre symbolizes Nepal's commitment to providing comprehensive care for trauma cases, inspired by global advancements in trauma hospital concepts and in alignment with the World Health Organization's vision. Recognizing the necessity of modern trauma facilities within urban landscapes catering to populations of at least one million, Nepal embarked on this transformative journey.
